The Birth of Aetheria

The Astral Sea, a vast expanse of space containing numerous planar gateways, untold treasures and ancient beings of unimaginable power. It is here a battle took place, a battle between two Primordial Dragons: Silvanos the Primordial Elder and Umbrafel the Primordial Demon.

The battle lasted for years, shaking the very cosmos and culminating in the death of both Primordial Dragons. The bodies of the Primordial Dragons curled around each other and formed a new material plane: Aetheria.

The Children of the Primordials

From the blood of the Primordial Dragons, eleven beings were born:

The 5 Elder Gods (Children of Silvanos)

  • Athos - later known as The Protector
  • Hylea - later known as The Earthmother
  • Ignis - later known as The Radiant
  • Mar'dun - later known as The Creator
  • Xynthia - later known as The Sage

The 6 Demon Gods (Children of Umbrafel)

  • Azzamon - The Inevitable
  • Morthu - The Everchanging
  • Nemorah - The Plague
  • Veilyn - The Shadow
  • Vylysh - The Sinner
  • Wroth - The Calamity

The First War

The children of Umbrafel and Silvanos continued the battle of their makers. At first it was a brawl, but eventually the children created creatures who could fight in their stead.

The first race to walk Aetheria was the Aethers, a celestial race created by the combined effort of the 5 Elder Gods. In response, Azzamon, Nemorah and Wroth created various Devils, while Morthu, Veilyn and Vylysh created lesser Demons.

The Devils and Demons could not stand against the mighty Aethers in a fair battle. Unfortunately for the Aethers, the Devils and Demons had numbers on their side, and they eventually brought them to extinction.

The Coming of the Mortal Races

Unknown to the Demon Gods at the time, Xynthia had imbued several locations with magic so grand that some natural laws were rewritten and extra-planar influence could be found in certain areas. In one of these areas, a large group of Elves migrated from the Feywild. Shortly after, Mar'dun created the first Dwarves.

Both the Dwarves and the Elves expanded their influence and eventually formed an Alliance to push back against the tide of Devils and Demons. With the help of the Elder Gods, the Devils and Demons were pushed back and most were banished to the Nine Hells or the Abyss.

The First Era of Peace

The first era of peace ensued, and the Elder Gods were revered under new titles:

  • Athos The Protector
  • Hylea The Earthmother
  • Ignis The Radiant
  • Mar'dun The Creator
  • Xynthia The Mage

The Dwarves were excellent builders and craftsmen, and the Elves were excellent smiths and artists. Together they expanded their influence over most of Aetheria.

The Dragon Calamity

During the celestial alignment of the 3 moons, Wroth of the Demon Gods gathered up Aetheria's built-up magic. This created the first 3 Dragons:

  • Bahamut - the Gold Dragon
  • Tiamat - the 5-headed Dragon
  • Yssail - the Crystal Dragon

The birth of the 3 Dragons ruptured the earth and a giant crevasse was formed on the main continent, destroying large cities in its rupture. The 3 Dragons fought, time and time again, and whenever they fought, death and destruction would rain upon the lesser races.

This was known as the Dragon Calamity, and from this point, Wroth also received the title of The Calamity.

Bahamut and Yssail the Crystal Dragon eventually brought Tiamat to her knees and imprisoned her in the 9th layer of the Nine Hells.

The Breaking of the Alliance

More lesser races found their way to Aetheria, and the Elves and Dwarves broke their alliance—they could no longer see eye to eye.
