The avocato fruit grows on avocato trees, in warmer climates. When the fruit is ripe the avocato inside the fruit will awaken and begin shaking the fruit loose from the branches. The fruit protects the avocato inside from the fall, and then the avocato sheds the fruit and consumes it. The avocato is considered the larvae stage of the avocato's lifespan and when it is ready it will plant itself. This allows the avocato to eventually sprout and grow into an avocato tree.
